Aim: Helping Roma pupils from primary schools, especially those from 5th grade, with enrolling mediators - Roma students as positive examples.
Description: This year, (2009) the new activity in Educational program is starting of Mediation. The idea of this project activity is helping Roma pupils from primary schools, especially those from 5th grade, with enrolling mediators - Roma students as positive examples. The activity includes field visits of students’ families as well as continued contacts with their professors in 5 primary schools in the town. Each of the mediators is responsible for about 15 most problematic Roma pupils, 78 in total, considering their school behaviour and success. Their role is to make the adaptation of the children in school easier, following their regularity, supplying books, help the pupils in resolving problems considering school materials, and promotion education among pupils and their parents. Therefore, the mediators encouraged the parents, especially the mothers not to be ashamed to attend the parents’ meetings at school. The mediators were chosen based on their success at school and recommendations by their professors, taking into consideration the gender balance. There was signed memorandum of cooperation with 5 primary schools from Kumanovo, we have asked and obtained permission for this project realization by the Ministry for Education. Each of the mediators managed evaluation lists for each of the pupils. Once monthly all the mediators, in cooperation with the school representative from each school organized meeting on which the discussed and find solutions for some problems.

Aim: Improvement of the qualifications and skills of young Roma through apprenticing and promotion of equal access of young Roma on the labor trade
Description: Basic aim of this project is improvement of the qualifications and skills of young Roma through apprenticing and promotion of equal access of young Roma on the labor trade. The young are included in process that, besides learning of some trades directly related to producing, hoteliers and cosmetic – hairdressing skills, provides possibilities for employment after the finished training. Other aim is surpassing the ethnic stereotypes and prejudices toward young Roma in Macedonia. From July 2005 till March 2005, there were 16 young people in different enterprises. The project is financed by Macedonian Development Foundation for Enterprises and Macedonian Centre for International Development.

Aim: Changing of experience
Description: In January 2005, RWOM DAJA – Kumanovo realized the project Study Visit for echanging experiences with the Foundation SEGA (Star for Effective Grassroots Alternatives) from Sophia, Bulgaria. The project provided possibilities for reviewing the status of Roma in Bulgaria, exchange experiences with NGOs and the Foundation from Bulgaria, as well as to compare the status of Roma there and in Macedonia. Besides the Foundation SEGA, there were visited 2 more Roma NGOs in Kustendil: “Nevo Drom” and “Romani Daj”, partners of the Foundation SEGA. This project was financed by Civic Initiatives, Serbia.
